I feel this quote generally explains the gain in reading. Even more, the blindness of those who, “try to get ahead”, but sadly resort to unproductive options. Meanwhile, they should have just used an optimal approach of reading. However it seems to me that one could think of the word “reading” as learning in general in this quote. This comes from the idea that reading is a way of learning that the author is trying to encourage.
This quote and idea relates to me, as I view similar traits in my own life. Most of the time it’s someone I see who doesn’t know any better, then to diminish others, in order to gain false benefit. As I see this, I get a certain type of defiance, or drive that beholds over me, and inspires me to do what those I am viewing lack. So, I end up spending time learning things I believe to be important, which then builds my view of the world. I think this quote tries to encourage everyone to do the same. To me, learning is one of the few eternalitys, it stays with you, and it is accessible whenever you wish. It appears that one of the best ways to learn is to read. I have little experience with reading, but based on the feedback of others, it seems to be really awesome, and contains many benefits. So I hope to read more often this year, and who knows what will be learned.
